INSTRUCTIONS FOR EXCEL SCORING PROGRAM

OF FAMILY RISK SURVEY (FRS)

 


The WCA Psychology Department screening program provides a kit that contains: a yellow laminated card with the 7 "scoreable" questions from the FRS; a computer CD containing the EXCEL program to score the FRS responses; and 3 WCA F.I.R.E. program brochures that describe the WCA resource to evaluate and treat juvenile fire setters. Specifically, the computer CD contains an EXCEL program entitled, Scorefamilyrisksurvey.xls. This program will allow you to score the results of the FRS and produce a print out of the results and associated recommendations. The following procedure outlines the steps needed to activate the program, input the data, and print out the scored results.

  1. Complete the FRS based on the responses from the 7 "scoreable" questions listed on the yellow laminated copy of the FRS. This yellow laminated card is included in your FRS screening kit.
  2. Insert the CD included in the FRS screening kit into the computer CD draw. It will work for non-MAC computers only. It requires that you have some version of EXCEL on your computer.
  3. Double click on Excel program on the Computer CD entitled, Scorefamilyrisksurvey.xls.Wait until program fully opens in EXCEL. The program is ready to score the results of the FRS once the EXCEL program appears on the screen.
  4. Move cursor to the blank youth information fields such as name, date of screening, and D.O.B. Type in information appropriate to the specific line. These information (fields) boxes are blank and allow you to input such youth information for each case. Other program boxes will not allow you to type in the boxes because the fields are locked (i.e., the fields contain programming information or label for information are locked so that programming information is not accidentally overwritten.
  5. Below the area designated for youth data is the scoring section for the FRS. There are 3 columns labeled from left to right as "Items," "Response," & "Score." Move cursor to the first blank Response column for FRS Question #1 (Q1). Type in the number appropriate to the particular question (e.g., Question #1 allows for ratings number from 1 to 4, so you would type in the response ranging from 1 to 4). The responses appropriate to a particular question are contained on the yellow laminated card included the FRS screening kit. You should see the score appear in the column to the right of the inputted response (i.e., labeled, Score) for that item when you move the cursor to the next question.
  6. Input all 7 FRS questions as instructed in step 5 above. Move the cursor off the scoring program after inputting the response to the last question (i.e., question 7). There are 3 calculation lines listed below question 7. These 3 calculation lines should automatically appear when the last question response is inputted and the cursor is move off the program field.The 3 calculation lines are labeled: TOTAL SCORE, INTERPRETATION, AND INTERVENTION. The EXCEL formulas for these 3 calculations are locked so that they can not be accidentally erased or altered.
  7. Click the EXCEL print icon on the top menu buttons to print the scored results.
  8. Click the EXCEL save icon on the top menu buttons to save the case record. Save the scored case using some form of identification for the screening results.
